Dave Navarro of Rock Star Supernova Splits with Carmen Electra

Posted in Random Feed, Pop Culture on July 18th, 2006

Former ‘Baywatch’ star Carmen Electra and guitarist Dave Navarro have split after less than three years of married life.

The couple are “amicably separating” said the actress’ publicist Brit Reece on Monday.

Electra and Navarro, who played with both Jane’s Addiction and Red Hot Chili Peppers, are the second couple featured in an MTV series to split recently.

The childless pair had their courtship featured in ‘Carmen & Dave: An MTV Love Story’, while their November 22, 2003 wedding was covered on ‘Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen + Dave’.

Jessica Simpson and husband Nick Lachey, who were the focus of MTV’s ‘Newlyweds’ finalised their divorce earlier this month.

Electra and Navarro, who met on a blind date, had been dodging rumours that their relationship was over since April this year.

The marriage was the 39-year-old guitarist’s third, while Electra had previously been married to basketball star Dennis Rodman for nine days in 1998.

With Navarro and the 34-year-old actress spending long periods of time apart, the rumours of their marriage being on the rocks were inevitable — and, until Monday, denied.

“We’re fine! I’m not saying we have the perfect marriage or that we’re the perfect couple, but we’re pretty damn good,” she told People in April.

“If there were trouble, I wouldn’t have my ring on. I would not walk around and pretend.”

Navarro had addressed the rumours on his website.

“So regarding all the gossip … Are we getting a divorce? Are we having a baby? Are we doing sex aerobatics? Well, none of these things are true. However, I wouldn’t mind trying the sex aerobatics thing!” he wrote on April 16.

And more recently Electra told Self magazine, in its August issue due out next week, that: “Sometimes you get so caught up in stuff that you’re not really living. I’m the most secure in myself now, so that makes me feel happy. I’ve felt bad long enough, and I’m over it. Now I always like everything to be fun.”

She also discussed playing along to Led Zeppelin songs with Navarro and creating art together.

The rocker is currently hosting American reality TV show ‘Rock Star: Supernova’, which aims to find a lead singer for a band featuring Tommy Lee of Motley Crue and past members of Metallica and Guns n’ Roses.

Electra, who is currently filming ‘I Want Candy’, appeared in the recent ‘Scary Movie 4′ and ‘Date Movie’.
